Taking notice of recent deaths of some people after their throats were slit by kite strings that had been coated with glass the CM expressed his strong indignation over the administration's failure to stop the loss of precious human lives due to kite-flying despite his earlier instructions.
He issued directions from Saudi Arabia to police and the administration on Tuesday that in case of any loss of human life resulting due to kite-flying in future, the Deputy Commissioner and DPO of the said district will be held responsible and case will be registered against the SHO as well.
Buzdar said that protection of human life is our important responsibility and I have made a commitment as the Chief Minister Punjab to fully protect life and property of the citizens. The police and the administration should fulfill their responsibilities towards protection of life and property of the people, otherwise, stern action will be taken by me, the Chief Minister warned.
Usman Buzdar directed the administration to take strict action against those involved in making kites and string, selling and flying kites. He further directed that those who are injured in kite flying related incidents be provided the best treatment in hospitals.
It is worth mentioning that Basant celebrations and annual kite-flying festival in February had been popular harmless sports of the sub-continent for centuries. But in recent years some unscrupulous elements had made it deadly sports. The Supreme Court had banned Basant in 2005 following 19 deaths related to festival. The Provincial government had indicated to revive this festival in February this year, but under public pressure withdrew its decision.
